This Privacy Policy relates to the website for Latin America Solidarity Translations (lastranslations.org), hereinafter referred to as ‘the/this/our website’, which includes the English, Spanish and Portuguese versions of the website. This Privacy Policy sets out how your personal information is collected, used and stored pursuant to EU Regulation 2016/679 General Data Protection Regulation, hereinafter referred to as ‘GDPR’, and the rights users of this website have in relation to the personal information we collect.

We understand that your privacy is important and we are committed to protecting your privacy and securely storing your personal information in compliance with GDPR requirements. We will always be clear and transparent regarding what information we collect, how this information will be used by us and how this information is stored. We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data is protected and securely stored.

Latin America Solidarity Translations is a community of volunteer linguists and human rights defenders (HRDs). The website connects volunteers and HRDs for the purpose of providing language support.

Information provided by you:

We will only collect your personal data in a fair, reasonable and lawful manner. We collect personal data about you on this website via the sign-up forms for volunteers and HRDs. We may also collect personal data from you via email correspondence.

This information is collected for the legitimate interests of Latin America Solidarity Translations, its volunteers and HRDs. The information collected is used in order to connect volunteers with HRDs for the purpose of providing language support and we collect the minimum personal information possible in order to fulfil this purpose. We will not publish any personal information online about volunteers or HRDs without their prior consent, which can be given or refused in the respective sign-up forms.

We may use the information provided by you to contact you via email in relation to providing or receiving language support. 

Volunteers can opt out of receiving notifications about job postings from us via the volunteer sign-up form and can request that previously given consent to receive such notifications be withdrawn by contacting us at info@lastranslations.org.


Information automatically collected from you:

We also automatically collect ‘usage data’, which is information about your interaction with the website. To do this, we may use cookies, pixels and similar technologies. Usage Data may include information about how you access and use our website and your account, including device information, browser information, information about your network connection, your IP address and other information regarding your interaction with the website. Users of the website may refuse to accept cookies by activating the setting on your browser which allows you to refuse cookies or by refusing cookies on the cookie banner which appears on the website homepage. We use Discourse to host the forum for the volunteers and HRDs who use this website. We do not have any knowledge of, or control over, how Discourse collects, uses or stores your personal data and we have no responsibility for same.

Your rights regarding personal data

You can request to view, correct or delete any of the information we have collected from you and you have the right to restrict or object to the processing of your data by sending your request to info@lastranslations.org.


Data storage and retention

We store the personal information collected by us through the volunteer and HRD sign-up forms and via email in a securely encrypted file. We currently have one volunteer project coordinator who is the only person who has access to your personal information in order to connect volunteers with HRDs for the purpose of providing language support. We only keep personal data for as long as is necessary for the purpose of providing language support to HRDs. If a volunteer or a HRD has not used our language support service for a period of 3 years, we will delete their personal data.


Changes to this privacy policy

Latin America Solidarity Translations regularly reviews this Privacy Policy and any updates to same will be posted to this page. This Privacy Policy was last updated in June 2024.


Complaints

If you believe that Latin America Solidarity Translations has not adequately addressed a concern you have in relation to our collection, use and storage of your personal data, you may contact the Irish Data Protection Commission at info@dataprotection.ie.


Website use

By using our website, you are consenting to the collection, use and storage of the information you provide to us and that is collected automatically from you in the manner and for the purpose set out above. While we will always endeavour to take all reasonable steps to protect your personal data, no transmission of information via the internet is completely secure and we will not be held responsible for any security breach unless we have been negligent.
